Introduction about Administration Services in Essbase  –
  • It’s a cross-platform administration tool for Essbase
  • It consists of three tiers

Administration Services Architecture –

·
Client Tier (Administration Services Console) – it’s a Java-based client console also called as EAS console (Essbase Administration Services Console). It’s a UI to manage Essbase Environment.

Middle Tier (Administration Server) – it’s a Java-based server maintains communication, session, and security information between console and Essbase server. It uses HTTP and TCP/IP protocols to communicate.

Database Tier (Essbase Servers) – One or more Essbase servers store and process multidimensional database information. Essbase servers can be installed separately from administration services.

Deploying Administration Services –

·         Administration Services can be deployed in various scenarios.
·         We can install Administration services and console on UNIX running computer and Essbase server on Windows running computer.
·         Or we can install Administration services and console in different OS also.
·         The Administration server supports third party substitution of products like application server and relational database.

Starting Administration Services –
To start administration services, first start Administration server and then start administration services console.
If you have enabled an Essbase Server for remote start, you can start that Essbase Server remotely    from Enterprise View in Administration Services Console.

About Administration Services Users –
  • User can use Administration services, if they are the user in Essbase Administration server.
  • User are associated with the Essbase server through User Setup Wizard.

      Connecting to Administration Services –
  •  Individual Essbase servers are handled by Administration servers (Middle tier).
  • You can connect to different Essbase servers simultaneously from Administration Services console.
  • There are two credentials user must know – Administration services username and password and Essbase server username and password.

Adding Essbase Administration Servers to Enterprise View –
  •  Each time you connect to Administration services, The Essbase Administration server you   have chosen are displayed in Enterprise View.

About Essbase Server Connections and Ports –
  • The number of ports available for an Essbase Server represents the number of licensed concurrent connections.
  •  Essbase provides one reserve port for the system administrator.
  • A system administrator uses the reserve port to log out one or more users when all other ports are in use.

About Essbase Administration Server –
The middle tier Essbase Administration Server provides business logic to support:
  • Cross-server operations
  • Persistence of user preferences
  • Access to Essbase Servers.

A system administrator creates users on Essbase Administration Server, and then Essbase Administration Server manages their connections to Essbase.

Essbase Administration Server has several configurable communication ports, which are different from Essbase Server ports. If one of the default communication ports is in use by another application, you must specify another port value in order to run Essbase Administration Server.

Note: If you change the value for the Essbase Administration Server port, you must specify the new port value when you log in to the Administration Services Console.

OACS Essbase Security Filters

Setting up security filters manually and using Maxl script in OAC Essbase and assigning it to Users and Groups. As you know security is most important thing in any field likewise in OACS also. So in this blog I will show you how to create security filter’s in OAC Essbase and restrict the user to see the data. I will be doing in two ways. 1        Manually 2        Using MaxL So, let’s get started. First let’s have a brief discussion about the Filter’s. Filter are used to control security access over the cube data. It can be assigned to a user or group.
