Data Analysis
Data Analysis is separating out a whole into parts, study the parts individually and their relationships with one another.
For example - if we have a whole data set and we are doing analysis on it means we pull sample data set from the whole data and then learn more about it and how it is related to the other samples.

Data Analytics
Data Analytics is the principle or logic that drives the analysis.
For example - As mentioned in before example when we pull the sample and do analysis on it, the techniques or logic we are using to analyse the sample is analytics.

Data Analysis Vs Data Analytics
Data Analysis is focused on understanding the past; what happened.
Data Analytics focuses on why it happened and what will happen next.

Business Intelligence
Business intelligence involves handling complex technologies and strategies that allow end users to analyse the data and perform decision-making tasks to improve their business.

OLAP - Online Analytical Processing
  • OLAP is the technology behind many Business Intelligence (BI) applications.
  • OLAP performs multidimensional analysis of business data.
  • OLAP - Business Performance Management, Planning, Budgeting, Forecasting, Financial Reporting, Analysis, Simulation Models, Knowledge Discovery, and Data Warehouse Reporting
  • MOLAP - Cube Based we use in EPM tools.

Enterprise Performance Management
Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) software helps you analyse, understand, and report on your business. EPM is  designed to help organizations plan, budget, forecast, and report on business performance as well as consolidate and finalize financial results (often referred to as “closing the books”).

Oracle Hyperion

3. The main purpose is to help the mid and top level management to gain insight into the relevant tasks like budgeting, forecasting, financial consolidation, profitability analysis, etc

Planning, Budgeting, Forecasting
Planning - Planning is the process of transforming the strategic goals and objectives of the organization into tactical goals and objectives at the operating level of an organization.
Budgeting - Budgeting is the process of setting revenue and expense targets for a specified period of time, with the budget that results from the process being used to plan and control the allocation of resources.
Forecasting - Forecasting is a process related to budgeting and planning.  It uses accumulated historical data and management expectations about the future to predict financial outcomes for future months or years.

Hyperion - Essbase and Planning
Essbase is a database.
Planning is an application that uses Essbase!

Hyperion Essbase
Essbase is Extended spreadsheet database is an Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) multidimensional database server that extracts data from a wide range of data sources, files, and spreadsheet; calculates and aggregates this data; providing fast access to the results, using a dimensional model. Essbase brings analytics to the business user and enables the business to quickly access business scenarios, forecast outcomes and perform what-if analyses to identify trends.
Hyperion Planning
Hyperion Planning is an excel and web-driven planning, budgeting and forecasting application to help connect operational assumptions to financial outcomes. Hyperion Planning sits in an application server (relational layer that sits on top of Essbase); between the Essbase database and the client tools that work with it; integrating financial and operational planning processes; leading to improved business predictability. Planning does so by leveraging Essbase multidimensional data model as well as standard relational database management platforms.

Business Intelligence

Business Intelligence You must be wondering what is the above imageor title is about. Yeah, it is about the first project I get into. Where the client was using all the above process to generate a report, which will help them to manage their financial planning. So now you must be having an idea that what this blog is about i.e; using Business Intelligence, EPM, ETL and ERP how the financial decisions are taken. Here the client uses the different processes to achieve their goals. So let’s dive in and try to understand the process.  Note - In this blog, you will get an overview of each process and its high-level architecture. Enterprise Resource Planning -  Firstly let's start with  Enterprise resource planning (ERP),  most of the companies store data through ERP. It is a process whereby a company manages and integrates the important parts of its business. ERP system stores both operational and non – operational data. An ERP management information system int

Docker with Essbase

Oracle Essbase with Docker What is Docker: Docker is a tool which put together an application and all its dependencies together in the form of containers. This containerization aspect of Docker ensures that the application works in any environment. Docker is an open – source project that automates the deployment of application inside software container. Docker containers wrap up a piece of software in a complete file system that contains everything it needs to run. Docker vs VMs with reference to Essbase: Traditionally we were using VMs, Following are some issues in VMs with compare to Docker. • Large image size: Essbase VMs tend to have in at 50-70GB, depending on what all is installed. • Difficulties starting up services: When moving between networks, such as from home to a client network to the coffee shop or wherever, I frequently run into networking issues that are hard to troubleshoot and usually resolved by restarting the entire VM (and hopin
